Along with your food habits, it is important you spend some time doing physical activity. Hit the gym and lift weights, as lifting will add to your muscle-building. These muscles will not only improve your performance, but also crank up your metabolism so that you keep burning your calories.

1. Think before you eat:

Spend time thinking what to eat rather than spending time just eating. The worst thing most of us do is stuff ourselves with whatever we come across while we are hungry. Ready-made, easy food doesn’t mean cookies and cuppa noodles; ready food also means cottage cheese and a trailmix of nuts. Avoid leftovers in the fridge.

 2. Eat breakfast like a man:

Stop believing in the jump-to-lunch theory. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and you need a balanced amount of protein and fat to fuel your energy pipes the entire day. Include eggs, milk, cereal and minimal amount of carbs to keep you fuller for longer. But please avoid the paranthas with extra butter right after you open your eyes in the morning.

3. Eat like a pig:

No, we don’t mean chowing down greasy food like never before. We’re talking of not skipping your meals and eating healthy food. The idea of snacking between meals is fine as long as you know what exactly you are eating. Don’t dig into a bowl of chips and dips. Instead go healthy, lose some weight and build muscle as well.

4. Keep starch at bay:

We know it is difficult to cut off starch from your daily meals altogether, given the importance of potatoes in Indian households. But we can offer an alternate: swap white potatoes for sweet potatoes and see the difference. Crispy sweet potatoes taste way better and are healthier too. Also, try having whole-wheat pasta and wholegrain bread.

5. Limit your cheat meals:

Cravings are very obvious when you are trying to limit your diet. And every other person will tell you that indulging in a cheat meal won’t kill you. We agree, but make sure you don’t overdo during that one cheat meal time. If you must, indulge reasonably. Opt for tandoori chicken instead of butter chicken.

6. Go low-carb:

More protein, less carb. That’s the easiest way to shed those nasty pounds fast. Keep yourself fuller with protein and the results will motivate you further.

7. Banish sweetened soda from your life:

Ditch rum and Coke and pick a glass of wine instead! On usual days, instead of trying to quench your thirst with Diet Coke, go for fresh fruit juice.

8. Lift weights:

Along with your food habits, it is important you spend some time doing physical activity. Hit the gym and lift weights, as lifting will add to your muscle-building. These muscles will not only improve your performance, but also crank up your metabolism so that you keep burning your calories.

9. Change your running routine:

If you can’t manage to hit the gym regularly due to lack of time and use running as a way to indulge in physical activity, don’t go for a very long run. Alternate between hard and easy running instead. Modify your speed at different points of the run. That way, you will enjoy the run as well as burn fat faster.

10. Indulge in some fat:

As long as you can keep a track of what and how much you are eating, fat is useful. Fat controls your appetite, makes you feel full and also is good for your heart (the good kinds, of course). Steer clear of saturated and trans-fats.
