Dare to take some risks, but don’t overdo it to a fault. It’s always better to be a little bit overdressed than underdressed.

1. Fit is king

We are not only talking about your fitness, but also about your clothes. Most guys wear clothes that are too big for them. Make sure that everything you have in your closet almost takes the shape of your body, not hug, but just falls comfortably. A bad fit is a disease, cure it!

2. Keep it simple

Though you must have a wardrobe that looks great on you, don’t overdo it. You must never wear more than three pieces of jewellery or more than three colours. Also, the rockstar look is passé, unless you’re in a band or a fancy dress competition. If you’re looking for flashy, then go for a simpler but stylish look. Sport a black striped dress shirt with a white blazer left unbuttoned, a dark pair of jeans, a dressy belt, and complete it with your sharpest dress shoes. You could also add a flashy watch, but nothing more.

3. Pay attention to your supporting pieces

If you’re wearing a sweater, the right cut and size are very important. Some sweaters are big and others are lean. The first rule is to match your top and bottom halves. If you’re wearing a big, chunky, rugged sweater, your bottom needs to be rugged too. Don’t wear it with a beautiful silk-and-wool suit pant. Instead, wear it with something as casual as cargos or jeans.

4. Casuals

You must change the way you see casuals. It doesn’t have to be boring. Go for collared shirts with gingham checks and pair it with chinos.

5. Stay a notch above

Dare to take some risks, but don’t overdo it to a fault. It’s always better to be a little bit overdressed than underdressed. All you have to do is think about where you’re going and whom you’re going to be with and just step it up one notch. But make sure you’re not better dressed than someone who is more important in a certain setting, like your boss.

6. Never shop alone

Even though you blindly trust the sales people, remember that they just want you to buy something and usually they are work on a commission. It’s best to shop with a friend who will give you an honest opinion.

7. The power of detail

The devil is in the detail. The last thing you put on is usually the first thing noticed. So mind the details instead of throwing together the main parts of your outfit. Detailing can be done through a scarf, a subtle pocket square, or the way you tie knot.

8. Shoes

Invest in a good pair of shoes. The one thing that women will notice first in you, it’s your shoes; especially how clean and sharp they look. Disregarding your shoes will not do you any good, you have to maintain them. Show women you’re a great man of taste by getting a great pair of shoes and keeping them in pristine condition.’

9. Disregard trend

Just because something is ‘in’ right now, doesn’t mean it has to be in your closet. Stick to what you truly like. It’s better to learn to build a versatile and timeless wardrobe first – then bring in your own twists with some of the new fashion. This one tip will save you so much money!

10. Tees with logos

When you’re going around with a big logo on your shirt, you risk looking like a walking billboard. Lose the lame logo and go for a classic V-neck tee or something artsy. You’ll look much cooler and not brand-conscious.
