11 feared dead in double road accidents on Asaba & Abuja roads

The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Julius Bassey, has confirmed that five people died on Sunday a road accident involving two articulated vehicles and two private cars along Asaba-Onitsha Expressway in Delta while in a separate accident, six people were reported dead and eight others injured in Kwaita along the Gwagwalada-Abaji road.

Seven others were reported severely injured after the Asaba accident occurred around 7 a.m. when a Dangote Company owned vehicle experienced brake failure.

“Sixteen people were involved, five died on the spot while seven others were injured; the wounded and the corpses have been taken to Federal Medical Centre in Asaba,” Bassey said. He added that FRSC officials had moved to the area to clear the obstruction and control traffic.

According to reports, in the Abuja tragedy involving 19 male adults, FRSC officials said it a Toyota Hiace bus with registration plate number, YEN 801 XB had seven of the injured victims taken to the Kwali General Hospital and one other was taken to the University of Abuja teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada. The bodies of the victims have been taken to the Kwali General Hospital Morgue.

Bassey went on to advice motorists to always maintain the speed limit when driving considering other road users as well.
