  1. Cynthia Morgan’s a blunt and a baby photo

Cynthia Morgan dominated entertainment headlines for the wrong reasons this year.

Her efforts to be forcefully accepted as a rebel reached a new height when she got lambasted for posting a picture on Instagram, where she posed with a baby and a Cigar, as part of promotional tactics for then new single Baby Mama.

Although the buzz around the song was gaining momentum, this ‘rebellious act’ however, drove the song into obscurity.

Although she tried to deny it wasn’t a publicity stunt, we all know that is completely untrue.

2. Burna Boy lashes out at MAMA organizers

Here is another king of controversy. The rockstar singer even attested to this in his recently released On A Spaceship album.

From threatening to kill bloggers, posting guns on his Instagram account to his recent criticism of the Nigerian music industry, Burna Boy was in conflict with quite a lot of people this year.

One major incident was his verbal attack at organisers of the MTV Africa Music Awards in the summer for not getting any solo nominations at the awards.

Burna blasted the organisers because he felt cheated for not picking up a single solo nomination.

Burna however won the best collaboration award for his All Eyes on Me collaboration with South African rapper AKA.

3. Psquare vs Soundcity fiasco

Earlier in the year,  Africa’s most popular twins were locked in a war of words with Soundcity Television.

It started after Peter Okoye of Psquare set social media on fire when he replied a fan’s tweet concerning the absence of their music on Soundcity TV.

Peter, in a series of tweets, accused the channel of refusing to play any of Psquare’s video.

This led Soundcity TV to quickly react to Peter Okoye’s tweet by posting a message on their official website explaining the reason for their action.

According to Soundcity, the twins demanded quite an unreasonable amount to perform at their annual event and the station felt they had invested so much in the career of Psquare, hence the price could have been brought down.

The music television station also explained that the issue escalated when Jude Okoye, their elder brother and manager said: “What has Soundcity ever done for Psquare? Tell me one thing Soundcity has ever done for Psquare.”

While the controversy still lingers, Psquare’s videos aren’t still being syndicated on Soundcity.

4. Drake vs Meek Mill feud

This was a major scandal and by now, we all know who came out better.

However, let’s just do some reminiscing. Shall we?

The squabble started when Meek Mill called out Drake, accusing him of not writing his own lyrics.

The Philadelphia rapper attacked the Canadian emcee for not assisting in the promotion of his then newly released D.W.T.A.M album after he featured Drake on one of his promotional singles for the album titled R.I.C.O.

Drake however, replied Meek with two diss tracks Charged Up and Back to Back which created huge buzz on social media, worldwide.

Unfortunately for Mill, a few days ago, Back to Back got nominated for a Grammy whereas Meek wasn’t nominated.

And the winner is…

5. From Bruce to Catlyn Jenner

Probably the biggest scandal in the year, as we saw Bruce Jenner ex-husband of Kris of the Kardashian dynasty announce that he was coming out as a transgender woman – and Caitlyn Jenner was born.

7. Seyi Shay’s outfit to meet President Goodluck Jonathan

What was she thinking?

This is what a lot of people blurted as Seyi Shay faced social media backlash for wearing ‘a skimpy outfit’ while talking to the then president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan at an event in Lagos earlier this year.

She however explained later that she had just finished a performance when she got to meet the president.

Nothing wrong with Omoni Oboli's dress?

8. Omoni Oboli’s revealing outfit to Aso rock

Nollywood actress, Omoni Oboli also faced the same criticsm as Seyi Shay after she received massive backlash for wearing what her critics termed as ‘a revealing outfit’ to the presidential screening of her Being Mrs Elliot movie at Aso rock.

She was accused for having an agenda to entice former President Goodluck with the outfit.

The actress vehemently denied the accusations but Nigerians had a field day with the jokes, wise-cracks and memes.

9. Tonto Dike’s N192, 000 debt mess

We’ve heard of celebrities making purchases on credit and not paying but we were shocked when Nollywood diva, Tonto Dikeh was accused of owing a debt of (N192,000) for a replica Givenchy luggage bag, which she bought from Pearl Chuks, a personal shopper.

The personal shopper said the actress gave her a bounced cheque and blocked her from her Instagram after efforts to recover her money.

To defend herself, Tonto released partial screenshots of her whatsapp conversation with the personal shopper.

Whether the money has been paid or the bag has been returned may never be known.

10. Charlie Sheen admits he’s HIV positive

After news filtered that an Hollywood star who had contracted HIV was ready to go public with the news, a few people ruled out former Two and a half men star, Charlie Sheen due to his ridiculous lavish lifestyle.

If you were among those people, well you guessed correctly as the Anger Management star announced in an exclusive interview on the Today Show that he was HIV positive.

The announcement gave the show its highest rating.

11. Bill Cosby’s rape and assault case

A firestorm of controversy has surrounded the comedian Bill Cosby down the years over sexual assault charges.

However this year, it reached an all time high after multiple allegations surfaced claiming that he sexually assaulted numerous women, with alleged incidents dating as far back as 1969.

The 77-year-old was known around the world for his role as the lovable father Heathcliff Huxtable on the long-running sitcom The Cosby Show, and for having a stand-up comedy career that spanned five decades.

However, at the beginning in 2004, various claims of sexual assault and date rape against Cosby, began to surface.

Cosby has never been charged based on any of these accusations, and through attorneys, he’s repeatedly denied that any of the allegations are true. Cosby himself briefly addressed the claims, telling Florida Today: “I know people are tired of me not saying anything, but a guy doesn’t have to answer to innuendos.”

We will watch this as we cross over into the next year.

12. Skibii’s near death experience

Word spilled out of the grapevine that upcoming 5 Star Music act Skibii had passed away. This news brought out a lot of condolence messages from artistes such as M.I, Davido, Wizkid and others.

However, hours later the management of record company, announced that Skiibii was not dead, and had only fainted.

Although Skiibii’s management claimed it was a mix-up, many Nigerians were convinced that it was a PR stunt for a song he released two days prior to the incident.

Even after pictures of him on a hospital bed was released, Nigerians couldn’t be swayed.
