14-year-old Ese Oruru has been rescued from her captors, and she’s now in the custody of the Federal Government.
Ese Oruru was abducted eight months ago from Bayelsa State by a tricycle driver known as Yinusa, a.k.a Yellow.
Yinusa had taken the girl to Kano, converted to Islam and forcefully married her.
Following Sunday’s launch of the “Free Ese” Campaign by Punch Newspapers, the authorities took action and a series of events led to Ese’s release- which was communicated on Monday evening by former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili.
#Ese. Praise God. Would need multi- dimensional care as she returns& plenty of parental love. Now to 2nd Objective. @PoliceNG investigation.

#Ese will be a lightening rod that ignites more systemic measures in our country to #SecureTheGirlChild from illegal marriage. #Imperative
