15 inmates to be hanged to death in Gombe prison

The deputy Comptroller-General of Gombe State main prison, Muhammad Abba on Monday said fifteen condemned felons in the facility are to be hanged.

Abba disclosed this when the state governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, visited the facility on Monday.

He said 113 inmates are awaiting trial for armed robbery, 119 for culpable homicide and 44 for rape.

Ahmed Adamu, representative of the Comptroller General of Prisons, Ja’afaru Ahmed, thanked the governor for building  a one-storey block of five cells, another block of four cells for VIPs and two security towers for the prison.

He also disclosed that the administration bought a Toyota Hilux van and an 18-seater bus for conveying prisoners to courts across the state capital.

The governor while speaking promised to free some inmates on Independence day, October 1,based on the prerogative of mercy.
