Sad: 4 still missing as Ikoyi Golf Club Van plunges into Lagos river (PHOTOS)

Four people who were in an Ikoyi Golf Club van that skidded of the bridge into the Majidun River along Ikorodu road in Lagos last night have not been found yet.

The van with registration number KSF 918 AU was pulled out damaged, but there was no sign of the four passengers.

Some reports believe they might be dead but General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Femi Oke- Osanyintolu, said rescue operation continued Saturday last night to recover the bodies.

“A Hilux van owned by Ikoyi Golf club, plunged into Majidun river in Ikorodu at about 5.30 am this morning. Upon notification of the incident, stakeholders moved to the scene and rescue operation commenced.

“The vehicle has been recovered, however, bodies of the four occupants are yet to be recovered.”

According to reports, Oke-Osanyintolu said rescue operation had intensified to ensure that the missing persons are recovered and even navy officers and local divers were seen at the scene helping out with rescue operation.

The Spokesman of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), South-west,  Ibrahim Farinloye, said the agency had mobilised its officials to the scene of the accident for the rescue operation.

He said the bodies of the four men were yet to be  recovered by 11 pm Saturday night but assured that NEMA would mobilise more of its officials for the operation, reports claim.

Kolawole Ahmed, a manager with Ikoyi Golf Club, closed from work early Saturday morning.

He headed for home in Ikorodu area of Lagos, driving a Toyota Hilux Pick-up van, belonging to Ikoyi Golf Club, in company with three others.

But then tragedy struck around Majidun River along Ikorodu as the vehicle, apparently on top speed, skidded past the edge of the bridge over the river and plunged into it. The four persons were feared killed Saturday night, as though a search party recovered the damaged vehicle with An eyewitness who gave his name as Solomon said, “The accident happened in the morning when I was driving out; it is like the driver lost control or something. He didn’t slow down before approaching the bridge. The next we saw was the vehicle somersaulted and plunged into the river.”
