Promises upon promises: Jonathan will fix Nigeria in 2013 – Okupe assures

by Isi Esene

For those who still somehow harbour some form of doubt that the president Goodluck Jonathan government will transform Nigeria, the senior special assistant to the president, Dr. Doyin Okupe has come out to assure them that Jonathan will fix the country before the end of next year.

Okupe said 2013 will be Nigeria’s year of glory; a year of our manifestation and a year of positive changes in all facets of life.

Okupe, who was speaking with senior editors in Lagos yesterday said, “Let me emphasize as Mr. President rightly affirmed that the year 2013 will be Nigeria’s year of glory; a year of our manifestation. It will be a year of positive changes in all facets of life. President Jonathan will fix Nigeria.”

Okupe went on to reel the achievements of the Goodluck Jonathan administration in the past two years citing developments in the power and agricultural sector to prove.

He reportedly said that Agricultural sector alone would provide jobs for 780,000 graduate farmers next year adding that each of the farmers has the capacity to employ four people on their farms which would ultimately generate more than four million jobs.

“Government has not foreclosed dialogue with the Boko Haram people. I believe that dialogue will eventually be the way out of the crisis but such dialogue must be transparent, constructive and with the real leaders of the group as there are factions within them now,” he said.

Okupe said that there would be massive development in the nation’s economy next year through massive job creation in different sectors which will lead to wealth creation and reduction in criminal activities.

Observers, however, maintain cautious optimism not knowing exactly what form the nation’s ‘fixing’ will take with the fuel subsidy challenge early this year still fresh in their minds.

  1. Why do you have to make promises on matters that are beyond your control, you say you will provide fuel are your refineries working?, you say you will provide electricity are the Dams in good shape? It has taken the Government of President Jonathan 2 years of hard work? with noting to show for it. What achievement was recorded in 2013 that will make us believe what you are saying. As an entrepreneur if i employ a manager and he/she does not give me value for my money in 6 months i will sack that manager. Jonathan has up till 2014 to deliver what he promised
