20th Commonwealth Games - Day 2: Weightlifting

Chika Amalaha, who clinched Nigeria’s first gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games, has failed a doping test.

The weightlifter, who was born October 28, 1997, pulled a total of 196 points in snatch and clean and jerk in the 53kg.

She trumped other competitors like Dika Toua from Papa New Guinea and Santoshi Matsu from India, who won silver and bronze respectively.

After winning the competition, she told reporters: “It was hard work, training, a lot of pain.”

The teenager has now been provisionally suspended.
