2015: Another Catholic Bishop wants ‘change’

by Kolapo Olapoju

“We must not allow the wind of change to pass us by”- The words of the Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Rev. Felix Ajakaye, as he refuted reports that he called for the arrest and prosecution of Muhammadu Buhari.

On Sunday, January 11, in Ado-Ekiti, the cleric denied the report where Punch Newspapers quoted him calling for the arrest of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ajakaye claimed to have not been aware of the story, till he was informed by people. He described the peddlers of the story as “agents of division and darkness”.

He said: “A news story was published in 2012 by ‘Punch’ and some newspapers on my comment on the alleged statement by Maj. Gen. Buhari (retd.) after the 2011 general elections in Nigeria. It is the story the dirty people are now manipulating as an interview I just granted in 2015.”

According to him, it is unfortunate that the “politics of desperation and manipulation” had taken over the political sphere at a time when politics should be about demanding for service and good governance.

Furthermore, he stated that this is the time for change in the country, while also calling on religious leaders to work together for the desired change.

“Inevitably this is the actual time for change and we must not allow the wind of change to pass us by. All of us, including religious leaders, must work together for this change if we do not want Nigeria to collapse totally,” Ajakaye added.
