2015: To run or not to run? Where does President Jonathan stand?

JONATHAN2015

In the news yesterday was an official statement issued by the Presidency that President Goodluck Jonathan did not sign a single-term agreement with any individual or group.

The Presidency maintains that Nigeria’s number one citizen did not make any such promises or sign any such agreement contrary to reports that have continued to surface. The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak, reiterated this on Monday in Abuja.

On the other hand, the President has remained silent on his actual intentions for the 2015 elections. Despite the continuous appearance of “Jonathan 2015” posters in various States across the country, the President still insists that he hasn’t decided to contest.

Day after day, various groups under one “Pro-Jonathan” umbrella or the other try to convince Nigerians to grant the President a chance for a second term so that he can finish the good work he has started. There are adverts popping up here and there and there is even the new “GEJ-ite” movement of volunteers for the President’s campaign. Yet he insists that he is still undecided.

If that’s not enough, the first lady recently gathered thousands of women at the Nation’s capital Abuja to rally support for her husband and President Jonathan himself has taken to making remarks about the future of his administration in ways that suggest he is considering a second term.

And now in a recent development, a huge billboard has appeared in front of the secretariat of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osogbo, Osun state. The billboard boldly announces “Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Office.” This is proof enough of the President’s intentions isn’t it?

So what will it be Mr. President? Are you running for the 2015 elections or not? All Nigerians would like to know.
