The Federal Government has several times urged Nigerians to buckle up for hard times in the coming year as the price of oil continues its downwards spiral in the global market.
It would appear however, that the message of austerity preached by the Federal Government for the year 2016 will not extend to the Presidential Villa as the government is proposing to spend about N12 billion for repairs, furniture and fittings, kitchen and the medical center in the Presidential Villa.
The document reveals that the total cost of rehabilitation and repairs planned in the Presidential Villa is a whooping N6,587,688,462.
A breakdown of the funds would see N1,832,558,638 spent on rehabilitation and repairs in electricity, N642,568,122 for the rehabilitation of the residential building in the Villa, N3,914,197,062 – rehabilitation for office buildings and also N198,364,640 for the repair of Defence equipment.
In the same vein, purchase of fixed assets in the Presidential Villa would gulp N1,196,066,328 with the breakdown seeing N67,129,028 slated for the purchase of furniture and fittings, purchase of computers- 27,500,000, recreational facilities- N39,075,000 and teaching and learning aid equipment- N1,175,000.
Purchase of canteen and kitchen equipment is N89,172,300, buying food stuffs and catering material supplies is N114,967,140, security equipment is N50,000,000 while purchase of residential furniture (different from furniture and fittings) is N45,000,000.
Also as fixed assets, the Federal Government proposes to purchase motor vehicles worth N599,015,000 and at the same time spend N278,000,000 on the purchase of buses.
The reason why the buses to be bought are not listed as motor vehicles was not explained in the document.
The Presidency is also proposing to spend up to N3,890,629,221 on the state house medical centre in Aso Rock in 2016, according to the 2016 Appropriation Bill made available to the public by the Budget Office.
