25 years of the Internet in photos – look how far we’ve come

Today, August 23, 2016 marks 25 years since the world was granted unhindered access to almost everything we seek. Essentially, on this day 25 years ago, the world’s first website went live to the public. The site was created by Sir Tim Berners-Lee.

Here are a few fun pictures that have surfaced that will remind you how far we’ve come:

Internet1Internaut is a combination of internet and astronaut and it refers to a designer, operator, or any person technically capable of using the Internet. Today, there are 1.07 billion websites, 4.73 billion webpages, and 3.4 billion people on the internet.

Internet2Thanks Tim, for not giving up.

This is the first picture that was posted on the internet. A year after the world wide web was made public. We’ve done better no?

Internet4Stop guessing! That’s a picture of the first website ever! It went live on August 6, 1991.

Internet5Yes that’s Tim Berners-Lee, the 35 year old man who gave us the internet for free. Berners-Lee currently holds the position of Director World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which oversees the continued development of the Web. He is also the founder of the World Wide Web Foundation, and according to his Wiki page, a senior researcher and holder of the founders chair at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. He holds more positions and all that this teaches us is: Give for free.
