The death toll from the collapse of a roof at a shopping mall in the Latvia capital has climbed to 26, authorities said Friday.

Latvian rescue services spokeswoman Viktorija Sembele said 35 people had also been injured in Thursday’s collapse at the Maxima shopping mall, in western Riga.

Search teams continue to comb the rubble for more bodies, with the number of dead expected to rise, she said.

Latvia’s national news agency reported that three firefighters were among the dead, and a toddler was among those injured.

Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs told CNN that authorities think building materials stored on the roof caused it to collapse.
