50 people have been reported dead in three bombings in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Saturday, March 7.

The first attack was carried out by a female suicide bomber at the Baga fish market, at about 11:20 am, killing 18 people, while the second bombing killed 15 people an hour later at the Monday Market.

The fisherman’s union boss Abubakar Gamandi, confirmed the bombing saying: “A female suicide bomber exploded as soon as she stepped out of a motorised rickshaw. Eighteen people were killed. For now, we have at least 33 dead bodies from the two incidents…the toll may change because we are expecting more casualties.”

The first two attacks were confirmed by Borno’s Justice Commissioner Kaka Shehu, but he failed to provide casualties figures until rescue workers had completed their searches.

At about 1:00 pm, a third bombing went off at the Borno Express bus terminal, but details, however, the number of casualty was not also immediately ascertained.
