3 men arraigned for flogging 80-year-old man in Oyo

Three men have been dragged before a court in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo for allegedly assaulting an elderly man.

Muritala Omidotun, 36; Ridwan Adedapo, 21, and Ismail Oluwanisola, 42,were arraigned after reports that they flogged Isiaka Bello, 80.

The trio appeared before a Magistrate court sitting in the Iyaganku area of the town to face charges of conspiracy, assault and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. James Oriola, submitted that the accused conspired with others still at large to flog Mr Bello on the right eye.

He said that the accused inflicted an injury on the octogenarian’s eye through the act.

Oriola also said that they stole a Nokia phone worth N7,000 from Bello.

He added that the trio used cane to inflict injuries on the back of Mr Kazeem Isiaka as well as used cutlass to injure Mr Teslim Oloola on his left hand.

He added that they equally used cutlass to inflict an injury on Mr Wasiu Ariyo’s right hand.

The prosecutor told the court that the incidents occurred on Dec. 3, at 11.00a.m. at Arapaja, Ibadan.

Oriola said that the offences contravened Sections 355, 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Risikat Ebeloku-Mustapha, granted each of them bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case till Jan. 24, 2014 for mention.
