3 Nigerians injured in Saudi Arabia crane accident

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has confirmed that three Nigerian pilgrims sustained minor injuries in the crane crash at Mecca’s Grand Mosque in Saudi Arabia.

Chairman of the commission, Abdullahi Mukhtar, who disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja, said the victims were responding to treatment.

Mukhtar, however, failed to disclose the names the victims, but he said two of them are from Kaduna state and the third from Gombe state.

While expressing deep shock over the sad incident, he assured the public that it would not affect this year’s Hajj exercise in any way.

Media reports say at least 107 people were killed and more than 200 injured in the incident.

“On the commission’s part, we have advised the various states pilgrims’ board not to allow their pilgrims to go close to the Grand Mosque for now. They have adhered strictly to our directive and it is yielding positive results.”
