3 suspected pipeline vandals arrested in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom Police Command has arrested three suspected pipeline vandals – Semiyefa from Bayelsa; Victor William and Nseobong Dickson in Eket Local Government Area of the state.

The State Police Commissioner, Murtala Mani, who was represented by the Public Relations Officer, ASP Cordelia Nwawe during the briefing said the suspects were arrested in a hotel in Ikot Udoma village in Eket council area.

He further said improvised explosive devices used for destroying pipelines were found with the suspects.

He said that the IEDs were two high power pipe bombs measured at 60/8.5cm and 44/5.5 cm, respectively and a third one, a long high power propel launcher bomb, capable of destroying high pressure oil and gas pipeline facility and human beings.

Other items recovered from the suspects included a battery for igniting explosion, a bottle wrapped with red clothes, native eggs and feathers.

The suspects, however denied being vandals when they were interrogated by newsmen.
