APC selects Yahaya Bello as Audu’s replacement

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has selected Yahaya Bello as the party’s new candidate for Kogi governorship supplementary poll.

Bello is expected to replace Prince Abubakar Audu, who died last weekend’s election, after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared the Kogi elections inconclusive.

The Nation reports that late Audu’s running mate, James Abiodun Faleke, has been retained as the party’s deputy governorship candidate.

Although the party’s leadership in Kogi state had chosen Mohammed Audu, the son of the late governorship candidate, to replace his father, the national leadership went another route.

Audu was rejected by the APC on the premise that fielding him may impair the entire governorship election in the state.

APC leaders,  in agreement with forces in the Presidency, decided to stick with Bello, who came second in the party’s primaries behind Audu.

The APC leaders were said to have also rejected the candidacy of Mohammed Audu because he was never a candidate in the primaries.
