#Dasukigate: N400m found in account of army officer, 9 northern politicians to be quizzed

In furtherance of the investigation into the $2.1 billion alleged arms funds diversion, N400m may have been traced to the account of a serving army officer.

The account of the officer, who was involved in the procurement of arms during the last administration, is being investigated by operatives of the EFCC.

A senior operative of the anti-graft agency revealed to Punch Newspapers that the EFCC was still probing other accounts of the army officer, in the hope that more discoveries may be made.

The operative was further quoted to have said that the commission was planning to make several arrests in ‘security circles’.

“The commission has traced N400m to the account of a serving security operative. The shocking discovery was made just before the New Year. Efforts are still being made on more investigation into the matter. The motive is to go after some of these funds that are in private accounts.”

Meanwhile, the commission is expected to, next week invite nine prominent northerners for questioning.

The 9 northerners were mentioned in a letter written to the EFCC by former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, Tony Anenih.

A Special Adviser to ex-President Shehu Shagari, Tanko Takasai had on Wednesday, confirmed that he received the sum of N53 million from Anenih.

He revealed that Anenih requested for a list of ‘9 political but respected individuals from the north’ and consequently, payment made to cover the expenses of the group on the advocacy tour that took them to 18 states in the north.

Yakasai had said: “Yes, myself and 8 others collected N53m from chief Tony Anenih to pay advocacy visit to prominent northern emirs to mobilised their subjects for a hitch free 2015 general elections.”

The 9 politicians are: former minister of state, foreign Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Anka, Barrister Bitrus Gwada, Alhaji Suleiman Lawal, Dr Bahago, Chief John Macklink from Plateau, and Senator Sodangi.
