A 41-year-old man, Zakari Imam, has been nabbed for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl at Hadejia City in Jigawa State.
The suspect was arrested by the operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC.
The state commandant of NSCDC, Dr. Muhmmad Gidado, while speaking to newsmen in Dutse, on Wednesday, 8 October, said that the culprit fled to Niger Republic after carrying out the criminal offence.
He stated that officers of the NSCDC followed due process while tracking him down to his hideout in Niger Republic, where he was arrested.
Gidado described rape as a barbaric and animalistic act, while also reiterating his determination to bring to justice rape offenders in the state.
He also said that investigation into the rape case had commenced, adding that the suspect would be arraigned in court upon completion.
