Sugar

Before you expect to see donuts and gulabjamuns on this list, allow us to clarify that there’s much more than just what meets the eye, when it comes to sugar.

You might think you are keeping the harmful effects of sugar by avoiding sweets or candies, but what’s surprising that even some fried salty foods contain as much sugar that can pave the way to an unhealthy future. Things like Chinese food, tomato soup and dry fruits are also, unfortunately, packed with sugar. Read on to find out where you should draw the line!

Ketchup

The reason why you can’t stop the licking the last of ketchup from your plate even after the fries are over is a question unanswered by most. A small of spoon of ketchup packs quite a sugary punch. Heavier sauces, like the Barbeque sauce, are full of sugar. A tablespoon of ketchup contains about 4gms of sugar, which might not be too much, yet quite a bit.

Yoghurt

A cup of yoghurt contains about 10-15gms of sugar. Although some of it results from lactose and is natural, but most of it is not natural. The lower the fat in your yoghurt, chances are its higher in sugar in order to make it tastier.

Chinese Food

If you happily offer to skip dessert for an extra plate of shredded honey chicken, and think you are cutting sugar from your diet, then perhaps you are under the biggest misconception. One serving of Chinese orange chicken contains around 90gms of sugar, which is any day more than a triple chocolate shake.

Raisins

Well, before you dismiss them as too tiny to cause any harm, you should know that one cup of raisins pack almost 100gms of sugar. That’s more than even a medium-sized Oreo shake! The high levels of sugar are a result of the dehydration process that the fruit has to go through. Hence, each piece of the dried fruit has more sugar in terms of volume. Albeit, most of the sugar in raisins is natural, and therefore, isn’t too bad for your health. Yet, the problem is that the calories add up and that surely is a matter of grave concern.

Frozen Pizza

With cheese, ketchup and all the additional sauces, what were you thinking? Pizza is a regular in most of our diets and hence, is a great (?) source of sugar. Even the crust is no less a culprit when it comes to shaping the future-diabetic you.
