Abubakar Ya’u, a 60-year-old traditional ruler of Kargo in Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has been arrested by the Jigawa state police command for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl.
Ya’u, who was paraded by the police alongside three other alleged rapist, was said to have abducted the young primary school pupil while she was on her way to school and raped her.
The spokesperson of the Jigawa state police command, Abdu Jinjiri, stated that Ya’u was arrested following complaints by the rape victim’s mother at the Garki Police Station.
Jinjiri noted that the command has recorded over 57 rape cases since January to June 2016 and that 32 of the rape cases involved girls while 25 were sodomy against minors.
Speaking with journalist, the traditional ruler denied the allegations, saying that he didn’t commit the said crime claiming that he had a quarrel with the victim’s mother over a debt.
