The Indian police have arrested six suspects and a bus driver for allegedly gang-raping a woman who boarded a bus at night in Gurdaspur district in Punjab.

The attack is a sad reminder of the New Delhi gang rape which sparked international outage last.

In this case which happened during the weekend, a 29-year-old married woman was said to have been taken past her bus-stop and driven to an unknown location where she was gang-raped throughout the night by seven people.

According to the victim who spoke to CNN: “They threatened me with a sharp edged weapon and did wrong things with me.”

“They kept me confined all through the night and forced me to do what they want.”

She said her attackers dropped her off at her village the next day. She promptly reported the matter to her family who alerted the police.

A similar incident happened in December when a woman was brutally beaten and sexually assaulted. Her male companion was not spared as he was severely beaten before being dumped by the roadside.

The badly beaten 23-year-old woman was flown to Singapore for treatment after the attack.

She died about two weeks later while undergoing treatment.

Both New Delhi and Gurdaspur are in northern India.
