7 things you didn’t read yesterday (but should have)

7 things

1. Can we take a moment to pray that God would bestow ‘wisdom’ on President Goodluck Jonathan…..Amen! The president says every time he seeks advice, he gets contrary opinions and multiple suggestion. He is therefore using this opportunity to plead with Nigerians to pray to God to make him wise enough “to take right decisions that would not bring suffering to the people”.

2. Good things always seem to find Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is gradually becoming the most invincible woman in Nigeria, going by the way things have panned out. She has now been named the first female president of two world bodies, the ‘Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries’ and the ‘Gas Exporting Countries Forum’, the first woman to be appointed as president by both bodies. And about the N10 billion Jet saga court case…..forget about it.

3. If you are going to forge a certificate, do your research properly and don’t get caught. Another politician, erstwhile Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Aminu Bello Masari, is being accused of claiming to have a post-graduate diploma, from Middlesex Polytechnic, UK. Lawyer, Festus Keyamo, on behalf of somebody, has petitioned APC to strip the man of the Katsina state gubernatorial ticket over the alleged certificate fraud.

4. In the wake of every Boko Haram attack, hundreds of people are left displaced. According to the National Emergency Management Agency, there are now over 850,000 internally displaced Nigerians in 31 relief camps across the country. The displaced persons are victims of Boko Haram terrorist attacks in the North-East region.

5. We’ve gotten confirmation that Ushers steal in churches, from none other than Reverend Simeon Okah of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria. Okah said: “Corruption has eaten so deep into the society that it is no just about politicians alone. In the church, you have to almost always pray with one eye opened because in some of the places, even some ushers and finance people steal the offerings. It is terrible”.…..indeed it is.

6. The contractor, who built the collapsed six-storey building of T.B Joshua’s church,- Akin Fatiregun may just want to play hide and seek with the coroner. He was billed to appear in the inquest to give testimony that could shed light on what led to the September 12 tragedy, but Fatiregun was a no-show. He cited illness, and also sent a medical report from LASUTH to back his claim.

7. Some young Navy graduates may soon be unfortunate to be sent to the North-east to join in the war against Boko Haram. The Nigerian Navy says it would deploy some personnel to help with the security operations in the region. Hopefully, this lads will get the necessary ammunition, and wont end up like the death-sentenced mutiny soldiers.
