80-year-old woman arrested for being in possession of arms

The police have arraigned an 80-year-old woman, Baseratu Balogun, and 21 others for alleged stealing and illegal possession of firearms. They are being arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos Island.

The accused include Wasiu Owotutu, Balogun Surajudeen, Bashiru Ayotayo, Giwa Ganiyu, Ajani Wasiu, Badamus Adeola, Habib Olojo, Adulrasaq Olatunji, Jejelaye Agunrege and Gbenga Adesanya.

Others are Kayode Azeez, Babatunde Oyebanji, Segun Taiwo, Rasheed Okulaja, Jimoh Ishakwu, Tajudeen Adekoya, Hassan Latifu, Muyideen Agunrege, Adeleke Adole, Mosuru Odumade, and Suraju Olukayode.

The defendants and others at large, were said to have been in possession of cutlasses and an unregistered single-barrelled gun with which they inflicted injuries on one Waidi Agbaje and members of the Elesho family.

The accused were arraigned on seven counts bordering on stealing and illegal possession of firearms.

They pleaded not guilty.

The magistrate, Mrs. O. O. Fowowe, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 and one surety each in like sum.
