Over the weekend, Gen. Buba Marwa (retd) joined the Adamawa state gubernatorial race by picking the nomination form of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to run as the party’s flag-bearer.

Marwa, who is a former Military of Administrator of Lagos State is reportedly the favourite to emerge as the preferred candidate of the PDP, following his recent endorsement by delegates across the State.

Marwa is believed to be a strong contender for the 6 September, PDP primary and his choice as the flag-bearer is expected to sway the polls in the favour of the PDP.

Solomon Gaya, a local politician from the state said “Marwa will be a good governor for Adamawa State. His experience as a former governor of Lagos State where he performed very well will count for us.”

He added, “Our state, which is currently challenged by insecurity and under emergency requires the leadership of someone like Marwa who knows the terrain very well as a former governor of Old Borno State (with Yobe State). We can’t afford to get it wrong this time as a people.”

Among Marwa’s campaign manifesto is a promise to revive Adamawa State from years of ruin and return good governance to the people.

Others, who have purchased their nomination form include, the Acting Governor, Umaru Fintiri, a former Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Modibbo and the immediate past Special Adviser on Political Matters to the President, Ahmed Gulak.

Marwa is former Nigeria’s Ambassador to South-Africa, and he is said to have consulted widely before picking his nomination form.

Adamawa State’s gubernatorial elections will hold on 11 October, three months after Murtala Nyako was unanimously impeached by the state’s legislators.
