Adaora Mbelu-Dania: Do more, be more and keep the faith (30 Days of Gratitude)

by Francesca Uriri

This year has been a big lesson in patience, delegation, and understanding that what is meant for me, is meant for me.

Having a baby meant mandatory down time, and an immediate need to find an efficient structure to be able to manage my responsibilities to my family, and still handle business effectively.

So, I took a step back to breathe, re-think strategies, re-focus and then make big changes that seemed frustrating at the time, but ended up being the best decision I made this year. I am currently surrounded by people that I trust to deliver 100% on client work, in my absence.

They go above and beyond to make magic happen, and I feel blessed to be working with such great minds. Together, we’ve successfully kicked off projects that each of us had been sitting on for years.

I learned to put my health first, because it is true that #HealthIsWealth. I hardly fell ill this year!

I learned to say NO to work offers that didn’t make me happy, even where the financial benefit was attractive. I learned to speak up and speak out in situations that were uncomfortable.

If I wasn’t comfortable with a business situation or a friendship, I voiced it, and did something about it –  and, in a few cases, ended it. As sad as parting with some of these people seemed, it was also LIBERATING. I lost some friends, gained some friends.

Basically, there’s something about having a child that allows you see things more clearly than before. I became less sentimental — tolerant, but less patient to deal with dishonest, and untrustworthy people.

Interestingly, some of my biggest supporters turned out to be the people that I least expected, while the ones that I thought were on my side, either disappeared or disappointed.

The year started off slow, but I kept the faith, and then the last quarter of the year rolled in, and has been an outpouring of blessings – happy family, a lot of progress with work, and a lot of happy clients.

I am thankful to God for showing up, and showing out for me. I cannot even begin to explain the GRACE that surrounds me.

My goal for 2016 is simple – Do More, Be More, See More, and most importantly KEEP THE FAITH. It seems like a vague goal, but it is perfect to me.
