Adesina Torera: Fallen (30 Days, 30 Voices)

Lagos

Now the giant has become a she-goliath, destroyed by her own

And slowly but surely is heading for a great fall

Terrible roads, terrible lights

Are all I see this black sad night

Little children hawking on the streets

Is this how it’s meant to be?

Everywhere I look I see unhappy faces

So many wishing they were in other places

Things get worse as each day passes

Especially for the unfortunate masses

Whose lives are filled with sorrow and pain

More of loss and less of gain

52 years down the line

52 years and there’s still no sign

Of restoration or fulfillment

Each passing day is filled with regret

Once upon a time we were heading for greatness

Heralded as a giant, envied by all

Now the giant has become a she-goliath, destroyed by her own

And slowly but surely is heading for a great fall

Falling headlong into destruction

And some still say we have a destination

Tell me where it is, tell me I say

Is it anywhere good?

I can bet the answer is nay

The great giant of Africa is on her face

Looking like she has been trampled by a horse

Who will be our saving grace?

Who on earth will redeem us?
