Akwa Ibom APC to Buhari: ‘Probe Supreme Court’

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, in Akwa Ibom state, Amadu Attai, has urged the presidency to investigate corruption in the Supreme Court over the decision of the court to uphold the election of Governor Udom Emmanuel of the People’s Democratic Party.

The Supreme Court had recently affirmed the victory of Udom as the legitimate governor of the state, while the governorship candidate of the APC, Umana Umana was said to have been unable to prove that the election was marred by voting irregularities.

Attai made the position of the state’s APC known in statement made available to Vanguard on Tuesday, February 16.

He said that by probing the Supreme Court, President Muhammadu Buhari will return dignity to the apex court.

The statement reads in part: “We believe the leadership of the country and indeed all Nigerians should not sit and watch the judiciary collapse under the watch of the current Chief Justice of Nigeria. We, hereby, call on the President to arrest the drift in the third arm of government by probing the rot in the Supreme Court.”

The Akwa Ibom APC chairman also said that the recent criticism of the Supreme Court following its verdict in some governorship election appeal cases showed that people had lost confidence in the court.

This, according to Attah, is greatly dangerous to Nigerians as the Supreme Court is the last hope of those who feel they have been denied justice.
