‘Those challenging Ali Modu Sheriff couldn’t win 10 percent of their states’ – Fayose

The opinionated governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, on Tuesday, called into question the political weight of several members of his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), saying that most who couldn’t 10 per cent of their states during the last general election, were now challenging the emergence of Ali Modu Sheriff.

Fayose, who have previously shown his support for the new national chairman of the party, also urged the members of his party to support Sheriff in rebuilding the party.

The PDP have in recent months cracked up, following the emergence of Sheriff as the National chairman of the party.

Several former ministers, that worked under the PDP federal administration, have severally called for the removal of Sheriff.

Sheriff, who is a former senator and governor of Boko Haram hotbed, Borno state, has been accused of sponsoring the dreaded group.

And until recently, Sheriff was a prominent and founding member of the ruling All Progressive Congress before he decamped from the party to the PDP.

Fayose at a news conference stated that: “As a governor, he can’t give me money. I’m not looking for a favour, I don’t need him to do what I have to do in my state,” he said on Tuesday at a press conference in Ekiti.

“But most of the people clamouring, particularly in the north today, I want to say that none of them won 10 percent in their state? What are they bringing to the table to continue with this argument?”

“As who? What is their relevance at home? But as a leader, I still have to appeal to them. They should please allow the dust to settle and channel this energy against Ali Modu Sheriff chairmanship into rebuilding the party.”

“We are aware of the high expectations from Nigerians for us to give the part a new focus.”

“Our party is a party that has an avalanche of qualified people who can proffer solution to our problems. We accepted to serve not because we are the best, but because we have been identified to be capable of doing the task ahead.”

“I will carry everybody along. I have come to form a partnership with party men and women. The wrangling that is going on is normal but we will overcome.”
