Impeached Deputy Governor of Ondo says he’ll be back

by Kolapo Olapoju

The impeached Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Ali Olanusi, believes he will most likely return to his position.

Olanusi drew the ire of Governor Olusegun Mimiko when he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress two days to the presidential elections.

Two weeks after the general elections were held, the former deputy governor was impeached by the predominantly PDP state House of Assembly.

However, while speaking to Punch Newspapers, shortly after returning from an overseas medical trip on Thursday, May 21, he exuded bullishness and appeared optimistic of making a comeback.

He said, “The impeachment was illegal, null and void. It is an affront to the spirit and letters of the 1999 Constitution.

“Also, the oath of office administered on the new Deputy Governor, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo, by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of the state, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), was illegal, because the Attorney General has no such constitutional powers to administer oath on a governor or a deputy governor. Only the Chief Judge can do that.”
