EFCC invites Sheriff for questioning over PDP campaign funds

Former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff has been invited for questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

TheCable quotes a source at the anti-graft agency to have said, “Yes it is true, the EFCC in Borno state has invited Ali Modu Sheriff.”

According to the report, Sheriff was invited in connection with the 2015 PDP presidential campaign funds.

Former Ministers, Femi Fani-Kayode, Nenadi Usman are among others who are under investigation over the funds utilised in the last presidential campaign of the opposition party.

Sheriff was a few weeks ago, interrogated by the EFCC over his role in the alleged misappropriation of the N300bn Borno state received from the federation account during his tenure as governor between 2003 and 2011.

The man who’s been linked to Boko Haram in the past, is also at war with the PDP after being deposed as the party Chairman and replaced, first with the national working committee and later with a caretaker committee chaired by Ahmed Makarfi.

In a public show of defiance, Sheriff on Monday, invaded the PDP national secretariat in Abuja and successfully addressed the press while declaring himself party chairman.

Responding to the unexpected drama enacted by Sheriff, the PDP, still stunned, has blamed the All Progressives Congress for planting Sheriff as a mole in the party.
