Another foreigner killed in failed rescue attempt in Kano

by Stanley Azuakola

A JTF raid this morning to free a German, Raufach Edgar, who was kidnapped in Kano on January 26 this year was unsuccessful and led to the man’s murder by his captors.

The raid by the JTF was conducted at Danbare area opposite the new campus of the Bayero University Kano, after the men of the JTF had successfully traced the hideout of the kidnappers. Unfortunately, Mr Edgar was killed before the JTF could apprehend his captors.

The JTF is to brief the press soon on the incident.

Raufach Edgar was until his kidnap working with Dantata and Sawoe construction. He was abducted by two gun men around 8am on January 26 along the Zaria – Kano expressway where his company is located.

It would be recalled that a similar attempt last March to rescue two kidnapped Europeans – an Italian and a Briton – also failed, leading to the death of the two men at the hands of their captors.

A group claiming affiliation to Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) released a video in March hinging the release of Mr Raupach on the condition that a Turkish-born woman, Filiz Gelowicz, who was jailed last year in Germany for aiding terrorism, be released from jail.
