To answer the question quickly – Yes it’s true! What eventually turned out to be known as ‘Oroki Social Club, Osogbo’, started out as a political pressure group and metamorphosed into one of the most formidable social groups in the ancient Western Region of Nigeria. The movement was a political youth wing in support of the great Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and the eponymous single ‘Oroki Social Club, Ilu‐Osogbo’, sold over five million copies when it was released in the 70’s.
Decades later, Triple O productions, Bayoz Music, DJ Lanre at Factory78 and 51 Lex Records come together to remake this tune, blending music from Nigeria’s Golden Past, with the brilliance of the present and future. It’s a foot‐stomping, hip‐jarring remix guaranteed to get listeners dancing before the baseline thumps. Now, that’s music!
