#BringBackOurGirls: APC blasts Kema Chikwe over comments

A statement issued in Lagos on Thursday by the Interim National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lai Mohammed, said that the party expressed its concern that such an incautious and insensitive statement could be made by a woman, a mother, a grandmother and a top official of the ruling PDP over an issue that is undoubtedly the worst tragedy and biggest embarrassment to Nigeria.

The statement said that Chikwe’s comments are raising  even more concern because of the position in the ruling party of Mrs. Chikwe, wondering if her irresponsible statement represented the closet opinion of the ruling party or the unstated stand of the presidency – in which case it will explain the FG’s dawdling approach to the rescue of the girls.

”It has been said that politics should not be brought into issues of national security. But how can anyone keep quiet in the face of this glaring assault on the sensitivity of a whole nation by a supposed leader of the ruling party? Who indeed is attempting to politicize a national tragedy, undoubtedly the worst in the history of our nation, if not the PDP? Read more….

Ex-Kwara governor, Adamu Attah dies

Former governor of old Kwara state, Adamu Attah has passed away.

According to reports, Mr. Attah died at the Abuja National hospital after a brief illness and will be buried on Friday in his  home town of Okene, Kogi State..

Mr. Attah was the governor of the old Kwara State (comprising present Kwara and Kogi states) between 1979 and 1983. Read more….

Nigeria is not a poor nation, says Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan, on Thursday, faulted the World Bank report which placed Nigeria among the five poorest countries in the world, saying “the nation is not poor.’’

PENGASSAN boycotts May Day rally

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), on Thursday, boycotted the May Day rally at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

Babatunde Ogun, PENSGASSAN President, told NAN that the boycott was in solidarity with parents of the more than 200 school girls kidnapped in Chibok, Borno.

He called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts toward rescuing the girls without further delay. Read more….

ASUU issues seven-day ultimatum to LASU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Lagos State University (LASU) chapter, on Thursday said it had given the institution a seven-day final ultimatum to address its demands.

The Chairman of the union, Dr. Adekunle Idris, who made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, said the ultimatum became effective on April 30 and would expire on May 7.

NAN reports that the union had on March 24, issued a 21- day ultimatum, which expired on April 13 and another 14-days from April 15 that expired on April 29.

The union had contended that the hike in fee had accounted for drop in student enrolment in the institution.
The lecturers also expressed dissatisfaction over the “no vacancy, no promotion” policy of the university and the non-implementation of the 2009 University Miscellaneous Provision Act, already operational in other universities. Read more….
