APC has a new headache… and it’s not the PDP

by Kolapo Olapoju

After winning the presidential election and the majority of the National Assembly, the All Progressives Congress has a new headache… who will be Senate President?

APC won not less than 65 seats in the last NASS election while the PDP now has 45 Senators.

Ordinarily, the new-ruling party would like to assign the post to the South East Geo-Political Zone, but the region failed to vote for any candidate of the APC in the election.

The South East also failed to return any of its APC senators, hence, the door is shut to the zone as regards the position of Senate President.

As a result of this development and the lack of a ranking APC Senator from the South East and South South, the party may be forced to zone the slot to the North Central.

Consequently, two ranking Senators who are being touted as possible replacement for David Mark are former Kwara State Governor and Senate Chairman on Environment, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and current Senate Minority Leader, George Akume.

Also, the grapevine says David Mark may decamp to the APC in order to keep his post at the helm of affairs at the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
