APC alarmed by Wike’s ‘dangerous threats’

In a statement signed by the National Secretary of the party, Mai Mala Buni, the All Progressive Congress (APC), on Wednesday, raised concerns over the recent statements credited to the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, about the National Assembly elections billed for March 19, in the state.

The statement said it was imperative for the party to speak out so as to draw the attention of security forces and other bodies to the alarming threats made by Wike in relation to the upcoming National Assembly election in the state.

Wike was recently quoted as saying that any electoral official coming to the state to rig the forthcoming election should first prepare his/her will of testament.

Reacting to the comments, the APC said: “The plot also include intimidation of eligible voters, INEC officials and security operatives deployed to ensure peaceful, free and credible rerun elections in Rivers state.”

“The APC advises the Rivers State Governor and the PDP to grow out of its penchant for ‘do or die’ politics. We reiterate previous calls on the PDP to embrace the new Nigeria where elections are peaceful and votes of the people count.

“We call on INEC and security operatives to be mindful of the dangerous threats by the Rivers State Governor, the APC is confident in INEC and security agencies ability to deliver peaceful, free and credible supplementary election come March 19, 2016,” the statement added.
