by Isi Esene

Two policemen were reportedly killed on Wednesday morning in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The anti-riot policemen were said to have been riding on a motor-bike about 7am when armed men suspected to be robbers opened fire on them.

Eyewitnesses say the two policemen died instantly.

Traders and passersby around the Mile one market in Diobu ran for cover to avoid being hit by stray bullets.

An eyewitness said, “We saw the deceased Mobile Policemen on the ground after they were shot dead.”

The Police later came with a patrol vehicle to remove the corpses.

DSP Ben Ugwuegbulam, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the incident saying the men were on foot patrol when the robbers shot them dead.

He said the suspected armed robbers will be arrested and made to face the consequences of their action.
