An Army private attached to the 3 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Effunrun, Delta state has been dismissed for alleged kidnapping and armed robbery.

The soldier was said to be part of a kidnap syndicate who specialise in highjacking trucks loaded with petroleum products and holding the drivers hostage until the products are sold and discharged.

The dismissed soldier was reportedly implicated by other members of the syndicate who were arrested last year but he could not be arrested by the police because of the misunderstanding with the army authorities on his complicity.

He was, however, dismissed after a newspaper report chronicled his involvement in the criminal activities.

Delta state Commissioner of Police, Ikechukwu Aduba, confirmed that the army private had been handed over to  the police.
