Twitter shuts down Avengers’ account following pipeline explosions

The Militant group, Niger Delta Avengers has suffered what is perhaps its first loss since the resumption of hostilities in the Niger Delta region.

The group had its Twitter handle shutdown by the management of the social media platform on Monday.

The group had used Twitter as a means of disseminating information, issuing threats and announcing its several pipeline attacks across the Niger Delta.

On Sunday, the group announced its attack on Chevron and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation pipelines in Delta state through its Twitter handle @NDAvengers.

On Monday however, the Avengers account was suspended by the micro-blogging platform.

An attempt to access the handle would give a “Account suspended. This account has been suspended. Learn more about why Twitter suspends accounts, or return to your timeline.”

See a photo of the account below.

While the Twitter account of the militant group is no longer accessible, its website www.nigerdeltaavengers.org remains functional.
