‘Beware of women, money and alcohol’ | Dogara advises record breaker, Ayodele Dada

Ayodele Dada, the record-breaking graduate of the University of Lagos, was on Wednesday, hosted and honoured by the Federal House of Representatives.

Dada, in February, was announced by the institution, to have graduated with 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average.

The House had to suspend its rules to admit him into the chamber, a privilege enjoyed by presidents or visiting presidents of other countries.

Consequently, the 29-year-old Psychology graduate was invited to a House of Representatives session to recognise his academic feat.

While in the chamber, the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara urged him to be wary of ‘women, alcohol and money’ should he want to go far in life and attain greater achievements.

The Speaker said the three major male vices could not be completely avoided, but warned Dada that “don’t let them get into you”.

Majority Leader of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila was responsible for facilitating the honour bestowed on Dada, whom he described as his neighbour in Surulere, Lagos.

Gbajabiamila revealed that Dada paid his way through school, “sometimes, doing two or three jobs”.

“He deserves this special commendation and recognition by the House because his story is compelling. It should be told over and over again. It is time for us as a nation to claim ownership of what belongs to us. He is the Nigerian dream, to have graduated with a 5.0 CGPA.”

Also speaking was another lawmaker, Prof. Mojeed Alabi, a former university teacher, who said in his 25 years of teaching, he never came across a graduate with 5.0 CGPA.

“I am seeing something unique for the first time. We have to celebrate the school and the teachers who produced him.”
