Baby-daddy club: 10 Nigerian celebrities who joined the bandwagon in 2015

by Rita Chioma

‘Baby Daddy-ism’ may not fall under the categorization of trend or fad but in the Nigerian celebrity scene, it’s gradually becoming a norm.

Male celebrities, rather than follow the traditional route of marriage before baby- prefer to have a baby in the house, in order to have the freedom to sow about their oats.

Just within 2015, 10 more celebrities joined the bandwagon and we strongly believe that before the end of the year, the number would increase.

1. Olamide

After directing profanities at Linda Ikeji for breaking the news, YBNL boss, Olamide and longtime girlfriend, Adebukunmi Aisha Suleiman started the year with the announcement of a baby boy. Little Batifeori Maximiliano was born on Friday, January 30, 2015, in Lagos.

2. Mikel Obi

Several weeks ago, there were speculations that Chelsea star Mikel Obi had fathered two children from different women.
According to the reports, Mikel had fathered two children, a 4-year-old boy and a 1-year-old daughter.
While the investigation on that was still going on, the 28-year-old football star shared a photo of newly born twins on his Instagram page in September, confirming that his Russian girlfriend, Olga Allegra had just delivered.

3. Davido

The HKN lead act, Davido welcomed a daughter with his 28-year old girlfriend, Sophie Momodu in May, 2015. The daughter who has since been named Imade is the grand-niece of veteran journalist/publisher, Dele Momodu.

4. D’Prince

Mavin artiste and younger brother of Don Jazzy- D’Prince had a baby boy with his girlfriend on June 13, 2015. The proud father and his family members stormed the Atlanta hospital where the delivery took place to welcome the baby.

5. IK Ogbonna

The bald-headed Nollywood lover boy, IK Ogbonna welcomed his first son, Ace, with his Columbian girlfriend, Sonia Morales on June 20, 2015. They couple later had a low profile wedding.

The fitness instructor has a child with his ex-lover, Anita Solomon. The baby arrived on Sunday, July 19, 2015 into the waiting arms of the mother in a UK hospital. The arrival of the baby caused trouble in Toke’s marriage but there are chances that the couple may fall back into each other’s arms.

9. Jim Iyke
Nollywood’s retired-bad boy, Jim Iyke has surprisingly been initiated into the baby daddy club. Jimmy as he’s fondly called by close friends, welcomed a baby with his 23-year-old Lithuanian girlfriend, Dana Kinduyte in Atlanta, Georgia where the actor has been frequenting in recent time.

10. Brymo
‘Waju’ is the name of the love-child of talented singer, Brymo. The former Chocolate City singer, joined the list of entertainers who had babies in 2015, when his girlfriend gave birth to a baby boy on March 27, 2015.

While the trend is common with the male celebrities, a few females have hopped aboard the bandwagon of single-parenthood.
