‘Bail out the economy not states’ | APC chieftain tells Buhari

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Bauchi State, Dr. Ibrahim Lame, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop giving bailout funds to state governments.

Lame, a former Minister of Police Affairs said Buhari should focus on “baling out the economy”, as he called on state governors to look inwards rather than seeking for handouts from the federal government.

Lame who stated this on Tuesday in an interview with newsmen in Bauchi, alleged that state governors were in the habit of diverting the bail out funds to other purposes, thereby inflicting hardship on civil servants instead of using them to settle outstanding salaries.

He advised the Federal Government to establish liaison offices in all the states of the federation for it to directly execute projects that would impact positively on the citizens rather than doling out such huge money to the governors, whom he alleged pump half of it in their security votes.

Lame argued, ”As a president, you are not supposed to give bailouts to states, you are supposed to bail out the economy. Let the governors go and fulfil their campaign promises. They should look inwards and look for money because there were problems in the economy when they came in.

“What the President should have done was to look at which aspect of the economy he should revive”

He urged the citizens to give the government the needed support to be able to bring the change it promised.
