Lace is one of the most iconic fabrics when it comes to Nigerian fashion. Our mothers can’t party without it, and in many circles it’s valued over the Ankara. However, if you’re wondering how it all started – how the Lace came to be socially embraced and how every Nigerian has grown to complete their wardrobe with it, this documentary (hosted by Omoyemi Akerele and produced/directed by Bola Balogun of Glam Networks for the Austrian Embroidery Association and the Commercial Section of the Austrian Embassy) tells us how it all began – the manufacturers first visit to Nigeria, views of second generation lace traders, and a collaboration between the Austrian Embroidery Association and four Nigerian designers – Tiffany Amber, Frank Oshodi, Ituen Basi and Godwin Mekwuye. Talk about an education!
