‘Biafra agitation is a means of making money’ – Obasanjo

According to former President, Olusegun Obasanjo- the Biafra agitation is an industry and a money-making platform.

Obasanjo said the Biafra issue was dead and has now been commercialised by certain elements.

While delivering a keynote address at a public discussion on Biafra organised by Nextier Advisory in Abuja on Friday, Obasanjo said: “Biafra as a secession issue is dead, and nobody should follow that way. I see it as a platform rather than a cause.”

Obasanjo said many naive people have been exploited through the agitation which ‘was born in error and ignorance’.

To justify this standpoint, he gave the example of the sale of a Biafran passport, as proof that there are certain elements who benefit from the agitation and clamour for secession.

“There is the commercialisation of the Biafran agitation, which is criminal – for example, the issuance of sold-called Biafran passport which takes on nowhere. Biafra agitation is as an industry; a means of making money. Biafra agitation is a hopeless and futile exercise of which nobody should embark on.”
