A landlord in Delta has died after reportedly being bitten by rats in his home.

Augustine Erukaya, 46, was said to have lost his life after his legs began swelling following the rat attack in his residence at the Ugbolu community environs, near Asaba, the state capital.

Erukaya was said to have been bitten while he was asleep and failed to get medical attention despite being advised to do so.

Leadership reports:

LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that the victim died of swollen legs on Saturday, December 28, 2013, after his encounter with the mysterious rats.

Unconfirmed sources said there was a mysterious invasion of rats in the community in the last few months, saying it had been a source of worry to residents of the community.

A resident of the community, Ogbueshi Sade, said it was not true, adding that when a rat bites, it implies a negative connotation for its victim.

Sources said that Erukaya told his wife on the changes in his body after he was bitten by the rats and was advised to seek medical counsel. However, he was unable to heed the advice as he started throwing up few hours after his complaint.

In a chat with LEADERSHIP, a relation of the landlord, who did not want his name in print, said the victim made an attempt to kill the rats but they disappeared to his surprise, adding that few minutes later his two legs started swelling up.
