BlackBerry Viral: An appeal from Mrs Bukky George

by Editor

As we said in the first of the BlackBerry Viral series, the column is a collection of  noteworthy information that’s making rounds via BB broadcast and other instant messaging services. YNaija got wind of this touching story this morning, and we want to share it with you. Please read, donate and spread the word.

Good Morning Dear Friends/Colleagues,

Recently I had reason to be at the Audiology Clinic, Yaba.

A poor looking lady with a female toddler sat next to me. We got talking and I found out she had brought her 2 year old, Mary Adeniyi, for the high tech hearing tests at the hospital. Mary has never responded to her name.

I was intrigued by Mama Mary. She spoke impeccable English, was very funny and I could not help but feel that circumstances of life made her look like she did. I asked her for her telephone number, so I could keep in touch, she did not have a phone. I gave my number.

Within 24 hours, Mrs Adeniyi got the dreaded confirmation of what she had long suspected – Mary is truly deaf. She was crying as she told me on phone. The N30,400 test fee had been a fortune for her to pay, now she has to pay N660,000 for 2 Hearing Aids if Mary is to hear and begin to learn to speak.

As I asked how I could reach her, a Mum from my kids’ school, who had been sitting next to me promised to buy her a phone (she has that now – 07095032496). I was encouraged and I therefore reassured her that I will reach out to my network of contacts and together we can put smiles on the Adeniyi family’s faces. I have confirmed her story and costs with the Hospital’s Director – Dr Irene Okeke-Igbokwe. All real!

PLEASE HELP!

Kindly pay your donations directly to:

INTERNATIONAL HEARING  CENTRE NIG. LTD
A/C NO.: 7200169226
BANK: STANBICIBTC, V/I, LAGOS

Reference: Mary Adeniyi

All monies will be credited to Mary’s account. We are aiming for N700,000.00 to cover 2 Hearing Aids (waterproof and lasts for 7 years), Batteries and follow up visits.

May you find help in your time of need!

Sincerely,

Mrs Bukky George

  1. CC,

Like to reiterate,He who wears the shoes knows where it hurts
You missed the plot,But my question to you is are u an employee or employer,

Thats why so many business fail cos they treat company funds as personal even if they own the company
thats my last take on this issue ,you or I as an individual can do all, its all about getting people involved

    ciao

  2. Hello Dale, what she's asking people to donate is less than what she pays for first class tickets whenever she "jets out" of the country. If she was so touched by Mama Mary's predicament, surely she could donate out of the goodness of her heart, or perhaps turn one or all of her uber expensive Health Plus locations to a donation center, saying 10% of proceeds from the sale of some (already ridiculously) over priced item would be donated to the cause. If she wants to get into philanthropy she should lead by example.

  3. to kemiis–
I am not holding fort for Mrs George,But because she has big tittle , doesnt mean she has to foot the whole bill , if she meets 5 of such cases a month , what do you think will happen financially to her
you dont know whather financail obilgations are , so think before you post

  4. I also received this as a bbm this morning and I replied promptly that 'A whole big woman like this cannot tax herself to do this? Na wa. What stupid contacts?'

In fact the whole bbm was quite offensive. 'A poor looking lady….' What a horrible way to describe anyone. Mrs. George, I do not know you personally and will most likely pass you on the street, but I think if you tax a couple of your other big business women friends you should be able to assist Mary Adeniyi. This comment is not written with any nastiness in mind. Just commonsense advice
