Lindsay Lohan has been confirmed to be hosting NBC’s Saturday Night Live on the 3rd of March, and while many may turn their noses up at this and take advantage of the opportunity to make jokes about how else the reputed party girl could be spending her Saturday night, we’ve compiled a list of reasons why we think hosting the show would be a great shot in the arm for the former child star and her flailing career.
1. She’s got a lot to work with. From multiple DUIs, to being convicted of jewelry theft, LiLo has a long list of woes which would work great for the brand of self-depreciating humour that SNL knows how to pull off well. Poking fun of her troubles could show the world that she’s well aware of them and can be good-natured about them.
2. Everyone loves a good comeback story. We may be tempted to believe LiLo has gone too far down the hole and is completely beyond redemption but all we have to do is recall Robert Downey Jr’s “dark years” in the context of him now starring in Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes as well as getting nominated for an Oscar for his role in Tropic Thunder to realize that deep down, everyone loves a winner. Regardless of how much she gets mocked for her troubles, most people still root for Lindsay, and let’s face it, who wouldn’t root for that adorable girl from The Parent Trap?
3. She’s genuinely good at it. Once more, we only have to think back to The Parent Trap to realize that Lindsay is, despite everything she has faced these past years, a truly gifted actress. Oh, and she’s hilarious too.
4. It’s safe. It’s SNL. It’s hard to fail, except of course you’re a singer (poor Lana Del Rey learned this the hard way) and for Lindsay who has hosted the show 3 times before already, it should be a piece of cake. At the very worst, she won’t be “that funny”, but it’s highly unlikely that it will inspire any ill-will towards her from the public. Unless of course she goes crazy and blurts out some pro-terrorism statements in which case she’d probably be done for good.
The star who is reported to be in the “homestretch” of her probation has also been reportedly cast to play the role of Elizabeth Taylor in an upcoming Lifetime TV movie. Access Hollywood reports that Lindsay will be playing the late actress in a made-for-tv film, “Liz and Dick” about the late star.
Lindsay tweeted her thanks to fans who congratulated her on snatching up the role as well as telling one fan who called her his childhood crush, “omg! really? that’s so cool hahaha thank you xoxo – sorry for the ups and downs… only going up up up from here!”
