Newly appointed National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, has reportedly dismissed as untrue, reports that made way into the media last night that he has placed a timeline to end Boko Haram bombings and shootings before the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
Top-level security sources stated today that the NSA never set such a timeline, but instead is determined to work with various groups and individuals to end the bombing campaigns, which have virtually brought activities in Northern Nigeria to a disastrous halt.
Usually credible sources stated that Dasuki, who is touring the crisis areas of Borno and Yobe, has opened discussions with different groups all with the aim of bringing the security situation under control. The scion of the Sokoto Caliphate is said to enjoy the widespread approval of Northern youths and elders alike, who are reportedly determined to ensure that he succeeds in his current assignment.
The sources said that the reports on the Ramadan time line were diversionary and could only short circuit the process of achieving peace in the north.
A Spanish public prosecutor has accused Cameroon striker, Samuel Eto’o, of conspiring to evade 3.5 million euros in taxes owed on income from his image rights when he was playing for Barcelona
The former Barca and Inter Milan player, now with Russian Premier League club Anzhi Makhachkala, is accused of four tax offences, each punishable with up to five years in prison and a fine of as much as 21 million euros.
The case presented by the prosecutor on June 15 at a Barcelona court, and which was seen by Reuters on Thursday, asks a judge to open proceedings against the player before the statute of limitations on one of the alleged offences expires on Saturday.
Spain recently launched a drive against tax evasion as it struggles to meet tough European deficit reduction targets that have meant budget cuts for hospitals and schools.
Eto’o allegedly created two companies, one in Hungary and another in Spain, and used them to channel income obtained from ceding his image rights to Barca and sportswear maker Puma, the prosecutor said.
The Hungarian company paid one of the lowest corporate tax rates in
Europe – 10 per cent to 19 per cent – while the Spanish company paid a reduced corporate tax rate of 30 per cent to 35 per cent, instead of the 45 per cent income tax rate, the charge said.
Eto’o also allegedly used the Spanish company to deduct personal expenses, such as payments for his mortgages, furniture and expenses related to his luxury cars, the complaint added.
Eto’o and his club could not immediately be reached for comment.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting divorced. People Magazinereports that, after almost six years of marriage, the couple are saying goodbye.
“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” says Holmes’s attorney Jonathan Wolfe. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”
TMZ says that it’s not immediately clear whether divorce papers have been filed and that, “We’re told Tom and Katie have a pre-nup. The net worth of both Tom and Katie is around $275 (million), but clearly Tom raked in most of that.”
Holmes did not attend any of Cruise’s Rock of Ages promotions and premieres. Cruise did, however, talk about her as if everything was super-great when he did his big Rock of Ages Playboy interview in May and said, “Family for me has always been important. When I shoot, everybody comes. When Kate’s shooting, I’m there with her and the kids. We’re always together.”
He also threw in this stilted-sounding bit: “She is an extraordinary person, and if you spent five minutes with her, you’d see it. Everything she does, she does with this beautiful creativity. She’s funny and charming, and when she walks into the room, I just feel better. I’m a romantic. I like doing things like creating romantic dinners, and she enjoys that. I don’t know what to say — I’m just happy, and I have been since the moment I met her. What we have is very special.” Who talks like that?
Obviously something changed in the past few months because now the fakeytale is over.
In seemingly happier times, Cruise jumped for joy on Oprah’s couch and Holmes told W: “Meeting Tom — I’m just exhilarated. He makes me laugh, we have fun, we understand each other, everything is so aligned. I feel so lucky and so — like I’ve been given such a gift, such a gift, you know? And it’s just really amazing.” Now we know who talks like that. Holmes.
It is, of course, just nasty gossip when we heard again and again that Cruise had auditioned a number of actresses, including Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Garner, for the role of wife before finding Holmes.
Holmes, 33, and Cruise, 49, have a daughter, Suri, and Cruise has two children from his marriage to Nicole Kidman. His first wife was Mimi Rogers.
You know what this all means: There’s an opening for the part of Tommy’s new girlfriend. Pack your bags, all aspiring starlets.

Things seem to have taken a turn around for Nigeria’s representative, Goldie as she now appears ready to put an end to her relationship with Prezzo.
The 28-year-old singer confirmed the break up earlier yesterday, during a chat with Biggie where she confessed to have forgiven and forgotten about him. ‘I have forgiven him but I have also forgotten him’, she said.
She further dissed the Kenyan rapper for frequently reminding her of favours he had done her, an attitude she claims to detest, ‘If the day that you are not too happy you are going to count how many times you have bought me perfume, then why do you bother doing it?’ she rhetorically asked Biggie.
Goldie continued, lambasting Prezzo for his habit of labeling people with ugly names. She confessed that she would not take that and as such, it is a wrap.
‘No I don’t take that because I don’t give it…For me it’s a wrap’, she concluded.
Thursday, June 28, 2012 will forever remain a memorable day for the Osungade family as they almost lost three of their siblings in the hands of popular Director and Cinematographer Adetokunbo Odubawo better known as DJ Tee.
The video director has been accused of stabbing a 19-year-old upcoming artiste Osungade Tolani Alvin in the face and assaulting his two siblings.
NET sources say Tolani who is better known by his stage name TLI Soji Boi had gone along with his siblings – 22-year-old Dolapo aka Deeking and younger sister, 17 year-old Mobolaji to support a fellow upcoming artiste Malcolm who was shooting his video at the Daily Times factory in Ikeja. We’re told DJ Tee was the D.O.P (Director of Photography) on set.
Eye witnesses say all was going well until DJ Tee asked for those who were to appear in the video shoot (including Tolani and Dolapo) to move on set while the others should move out of shooting range. Dolapo’s girlfriend who wasn’t supposed to appear in the shoot stayed back on set.
Apparently this angered the director as DJ Tee was said to have ‘rudely told her to get out’. ‘He started screaming for her to get out, calling her bitch and stuff’, O’tuga Suzzie, a witness and family friend to the Osungade’s tweeted late last night.
Dolapo, obviously upset, talked back at the director, trying to caution him but DJ Tee allegedly slapped him and asked his boys who were also at the shoot to beat him up.
‘DJ Tee’s boys (about 10 of them) immediately pounced on Dolapo and started beating him up’ one eye witness who asked not to be named, told us.
‘As Mobo screamed and watched helplessly as her elder brother was being beaten up, DJ Tee asked his boys to beat her up too. As Tolani tried to intervene in the whole matter, DJ Tee approached Dolapo to stab him with a bottle he just broke. Tolani intervened and DJ Tee stabbed him in the face. He then had them all thrown out of the factory and continued with the shoot.’
NET gathered Tolani is now receiving treatment at the Ikeja Medical Centre.
Even though different eye witnesses claim he did, the director has come out to say nothing of the sort happened. He tweeted: ‘@SOJIBOI_WE bro, I did not stab you…….why are people saying I picked up a bottle & stabbed you with it on your face’, DJ Tee tweeted at Tolani.
he House of Representatives Ethics and Privileges committee announced on Thursday it was issuing summons for the appearance of oil marketer, Femi Otedola, before it, claiming that after questioning Mr. Farouk Lawan, over the $620,000 bribery scam, “startling revelations” had turned up.
The lawmaker and Mr. Otedola have been embroiled in the scandal that has been fraught with accusations and denials, with a police investigation into the matter, barely achieving much.
Amidst a police probe, the House committee opened its internal probe on the case on Thursday, meeting with Mr. Lawan for more than three hours behind closed doors, after a brief opening in which the committee pledged to conduct a transparent and fair inquiry.
After the session, the committee chairman, Gambo Dan-Musa said “several questions” put to Mr. Lawan, produced “startling revelations.” On that account, Mr. Otedola and other “stakeholders” with information about the case, were to be invited.
The lawmaker did not give details of the committee’s findings.
“The committee is set to carry out its assignment with a very high sense of commitment. We shall strive to be fair and just to all parties involved,” he said.
Mr. Otedola is to appear on July 3, 2012, Mr. Dan-Musa said, explaining the meeting was conducted in camera against earlier assurance for an open hearing, to forestall the undermining of the expected testimonies.
Coming more than two weeks after the scandal broke out, the House inquiry provides a new front to the episode which police say investigations had been slowed by the inability to trace the marked dollar notes paid to the lawmaker.
Mr. Lawan has agreed receiving the payment from Mr. Otedola, who, claiming to have acted to expose the lawmaker, however received in return, clearance for his oil firm, Zenon, earlier indicted for fuel fraud investigated by the House.
However, in earlier presentations to the police, the lawmaker has also denied receiving the sum as a bribe, claiming instead to have accepted the exchange, recorded by security agents, to implicate Mr. Otedola.
Mr. Lawan said immediately after making the receipt, he informed, and passed the notes to another House member Adams Jagaba, who is in charge of the House Financial Crimes committee.
In an earlier memo sent to the speaker of the House, Aminu Tambuwal, Mr. Jagaba, denied receiving the sum, or the information.
Police say finding the marked notes is key to the investigation. But
after two weeks during which Mr. Otedola and Mr. Lawan have been interrogated by the police, investigators say the funds could still not be located.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole, on Thursday, survived an assassination attempt when gunmen attacked his motorcade while he was campaigning at Usen town, Ovia South West Local Government Area of the state.
Oshiomhole, who is vying for a second term in office as the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), had visited the traditional ruler of Usen, Oluogbe II, and was on his way back when the attack occurred.
The state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Louis Odion, confirmed the incident. “At about 6pm local time, Governor Oshiomhole’s convoy left the palace; it had not travelled too far down the road when it ran into a barricade,” he said. “Naturally, the security details attached to the governor came down to remove the bar. As they were clearing the place, tens of heavily armed thugs emerged from nowhere and opened fire on the governor for several seconds.
Dutifully, the brave security details attached to the governor, supported by an additional contingent of regular policemen deployed to maintain law and order, rose to the occasion. They were able to shield the governor, key government functionaries and others, including leaders of Edo ACN to safety without sustaining any human casualties. But several official vehicles, including Toyota Landcruisers, Hilux pick-up van and Toyota Corolla saloon car were either badly damaged or riddled with bullets.”
According to Odion, after the attack was repelled, the gunmen descended on the near-by police post and vandalised it. He also accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state of being behind the attack.

At least eight members of Congress — seven Republicans and one Democrat — jumped the gun on Thursday’s Supreme Court ruling, tweeting incorrectly that the individual mandate had been struck down as unconstitutional.
Reps. Dennis Ross, Aaron Schock, Virginia Foxx, Justin Amash, Tom Rooney, Steven Palazzo, Buck McKeon and Dennis Kucinich all blew it — in fact, the individual mandate was actually upheld as a tax. The lawmakers reacted in different ways after realizing their mistake.
“Let Freedom Ring,” said Ross (R-Fla.) in a tweet at 10:08 a.m. “Individual Mandate ruled unconstitutional.”
“Spoke [too] soon. Intellectually, find absurd to utilize the tax power when the admin didn’t argue it & commerce clause doesn’t permit,” he told POLITICO in a follow-up tweet.
Schock (R-Ill.) tweeted out that the individual mandate had been “ruled unconstitutional” but that it was “still developing.” The tweet was deleted without explanation.
At least one Democrat jumped the gun as well, cheering the supposed axing of the individual mandate as a step towards a single-payer system.
“Individual mandate struck down. #SCOTUS clears the path for #SinglePayer,” tweeted Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio).
“This is a big win for ?#liberty? & the ?#Constitution?,” wrote Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) at 10:07 a.m., in contrast.
“Great news for American people, victory for constitution,” added Rep. Tom Rooney (R-Fla.).
Some lawmakers deleted their incorrect tweet and explained that they were wrong.
“#UNCONSTITUTIONAL” tweeted Foxx (R-N.C.). “#SCOTUS overturns #Obamacare’s individual insurance #mandate. Developing…”
Foxx deleted that tweet and later explained that she was getting “conflicting news.”
“Supreme Court rules individual mandate unconstitutional,” tweeted Palazzo (R-Miss.), joined by House Armed Services Committee chairman Buck McKeon (R-Calif.), who wrote “Breaking: #Obamacare individual mandate ruled unconstitutional. More to come…”
Both members of Congress explained the mix-up.
Palazzo cited “much confusion” and McKeon updated later that the outcome was “not completely clear.”
In a rush to break the news, both CNN and Fox News inaccurately reported this morning’s Supreme Court ruling on healthcare.
On television, on its website, and in breaking news alerts, CNN announced that the individual mandate had been struck down. CNN political reporter John King described it as “a dramatic blow to the policy and to the President, politically.” Fox News, too, announced that the Court had found the individual mandate “unconstitutional.”
Moments later, SCOTUSblog, the wires, and other television networks were reporting just the opposite.
“The mandate is constitutional. Chief Justice Roberts joins the left of the Court,” SCOTUSblog announced even as CNN and Fox were still announcing defeat for President Obama’s signature bill.
Since realizing its mistake, CNN and Fox have issued corrections across their formats. On television, anchors on both networks cited the confusion of the ruling as they changed their reports.
“Correction: The Supreme Court backs all parts of President Obama’s signature health care law, including the individual mandate that requires all to have health insurance,” CNN shot out in a blast email.
The network has also been forced to delete tweets and correct itself on air.
Spokespeople at both networks did not immediately respond to a request for comment or clarification, though in the past CNN representatives have told POLITICO that they are more concerned with “getting it right” than with “getting it first.”
That did not seem to be the case this time.
